Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 30, 2026

Applies to the GeoMine app and website, operated by GeoMine Business Analytics LLC.

The short version

We check your location only while you’re actively earning at a spot you chose — never silently in the background. We never sell your personal or location data. You can export or delete your data anytime. That’s the spirit of everything below.

1What we collect#

We try to collect only what we need to run a rewards app honestly. That includes:

  • Account details — your display name and email when you sign up, so we can reach you and deliver rewards.
  • Location, during active sessions — coordinates used to confirm you’re inside a participating business while you’re earning.
  • Earning & redemption activity — the GM Points you earn, your streaks, and the gift cards you redeem (including the recipient name and delivery email you enter for each card). We track lifetime redemption totals (in USD, per rolling 365-day window) to enforce the $599/year cap that keeps redemptions below the IRS reporting threshold.
  • Device & app basics — device type, app version, and anti-fraud signals that help us catch spoofed locations.
  • App usage events — a small set of in-app events (for example: the app was opened, a key screen was viewed, location permission was granted or denied, automatic visits were turned on, sign-up, first visit, first redemption, subscription start) tied to a random install ID and, once you sign in, to your account. These events never include your location.
  • Install attribution — how you found the app: campaign tags on our links (UTM parameters), the Google Play install referrer on Android, and on iPhone an Apple Ads attribution token that Apple resolves to the ad campaign (if any) that led to the download. We don’t use Apple’s tracking prompt (ATT) or your device advertising ID for this.
  • Ads — the free version of the app shows ads from Google AdMob. To serve and measure those ads, Google’s software in the app receives basic device and app information, such as your IP address, device type and, if your device settings allow it, your device advertising ID. We request non-personalized ads only, so these ads aren’t based on your interests or activity in other apps. We never give Google your location, your visits or your account details.
  • Business claim data — if you submit a business claim, the proof of ownership you provide (e.g. a utility bill, license, or verified business email), stored encrypted and deleted after the claim is resolved.

2How we use it#

We use your information to verify visits, credit your points, deliver your gift cards, keep the rewards pool fair, and answer you when you reach out. We also use aggregate, de-identified trends to improve the app and decide where to expand next.

Measuring our own marketing. We use the app usage events and install attribution described above, in our own systems, to see which campaigns and links bring people who actually use GeoMine. We don’t sell this data, and we never send your location or the businesses you visit to advertising platforms.

Notifications. We send notifications about your own account and activity — for example, when a visit is credited or a gift card is delivered. Separately, if you turn on Deals & events near me, we send promotional notifications on behalf of local businesses on GeoMine about Power Hours, specials, and events. On iPhone these are off unless you choose to turn them on; on Android they’re on unless you turn them off. We keep a record of when you made your choice.

Ads. Free members see ads from Google AdMob (a bottom banner on some screens and, now and then, a full-screen ad after a visit ends). We use them to keep the free version free. We ask Google for non-personalized ads only and turn on Google’s restricted data processing, we don’t show Apple’s tracking prompt (ATT), and we don’t send Google your location or the businesses you visit.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we don’t use your data for cross-app ad tracking.

3Location data#

This is the part people care about most, so we’ll be direct:

  • We check your location only during an active earning session at a business you chose to visit.
  • We do not track your location in the background between sessions.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your location history with data brokers — ever.
  • Location is used solely for geofence verification and anti-cheat. You can turn off location permission at any time; you simply won’t be able to earn until it’s re-enabled.

In plain terms: GeoMine should only know where you are in the moment you’re earning a reward — and that information stays with us.

4Who we share with#

We share the minimum necessary with a few trusted service providers who help us operate:

  • Stripe — to securely process business subscription payments.
  • Tango Card, Inc. (our rewards partner, part of Blackhawk Network) — receives the name, email address and card amount for each gift card you redeem, so it can deliver your Prepaid Mastercard® by email. Tango and the card’s issuing bank handle that data under their own privacy policies.
  • Infrastructure, email & analytics providers — to host the service, send transactional email, and understand aggregate usage. Each receives only the minimum data it needs.
  • Apple and Google — on iPhone we send Apple the Apple Ads attribution token so Apple can tell us which Apple Ads campaign, if any, led to your download; on Android, Google Play tells the app which link led to the install. No location or account details are sent for this.
  • Google AdMob (Free members only) — Google’s ads software in the app receives device and app information (such as IP address, device type and, where your device allows it, your advertising ID) to serve non-personalized ads, measure them and prevent ad fraud. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy (how Google uses information from apps that use its services). No location, visit or account details are shared with Google.
  • Participating businesses — see aggregate visit counts and the customers who chose to earn with them, not a feed of your movements.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of our users and the public.

5Your choices & rights#

You’re in control of your data. You can:

  • Access & export a copy of your data from your account settings.
  • Correct inaccurate account information at any time.
  • Delete your account and associated personal data — start at our account deletion page.
  • Turn promotional notifications on or off anytime in the app under Settings → Deals & events near me, or turn off all notifications in your device settings.
  • Manage permissions like location and notifications from your device settings.
  • Ad choices — you can reset or delete your device advertising ID, or limit ad tracking, in your device settings. Where Google’s consent tool requires it, the app shows Settings → Ad privacy choices.

California residents (under the CCPA/CPRA) and residents of other states with privacy laws have additional rights, including the right to know and the right to opt out of “sales” — which is easy for us, because we don’t sell your data.

6Data retention#

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data promptly (within 30 days), except for a limited set of records we’re legally required to keep — such as tax and transaction records tied to gift-card redemptions.

7Security#

We protect your information with encryption in transit, encryption at rest, access controls, and the security practices of our payment and rewards partners. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data as if it were our own.

8Children#

GeoMine is not directed to children, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

9Changes to this policy#

If we make a meaningful change, we’ll update the date at the top and, when appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use GeoMine after a change means you accept the updated policy.

10Contact us#

Questions about privacy? Email us at privacy@geomineanalytics.com or reach the team through our contact page. We’re a US-based company, and we read every message.

Referral links and the Partner Program#

When you open a GeoMine referral or partner link (for example geomineanalytics.com/r/…), we store a first-party cookie called gm_ref for up to 30 days. It holds only the referral code and a random click ID, so we can credit the right partner if you sign up. We also keep a random, anonymous ID (gm_anon) in your browser to count visits without identifying you. Neither is used for advertising or shared with other companies.

We record clicks on partner links without storing your IP address or full browser details (we keep only one-way hashes). Partners only see totals, such as how many people clicked, signed up, verified their email and made their first visits, or how many businesses started a paid plan. They never see your name, email, device or where you visit.

California privacy notice#

Placeholder, pending legal review. The California-specific notice (categories of personal information, sources, purposes, retention, and how to exercise your rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including “Do Not Sell or Share”) will appear here once counsel approves the text.

Until then, California residents can use the choices and rights described in section 5, or email privacy@geomineanalytics.com.
